The Cold Is Not a Closed Door
Love on Hamilton has walked Friday nights for more than twelve years — including the ones when your breath shows and your hands ache after ten minutes. Winter does not cancel Matthew 25. It just asks for wisdom. Presence still preaches. Recklessness does not.
If you have never come, start with what a first Friday feels like. Then add layers.
What Changes When It Drops Below Zero
- Shorter routes. Better light. Stay in lit public areas. Do not prove toughness by walking farther than wisdom allows.
- Layers you can give away. Socks, gloves, a spare toque. A jacket you are actually willing to leave with someone if the Spirit says so.
- Hot drinks over speeches. The cup opens the door. The name keeps it open. Ask how you can pray.
- Go in pairs. Luke 10:1 is not optional in January. Wisdom and warmth travel together.
- Debrief indoors. A warm lobby, a car, a church hallway. Thank God, name the people, plan follow-up before you scatter.
Common Questions
Should we cancel for a storm? Use wisdom. Ice storms and extreme wind are not unbelief. They are weather. If you stay in, pray the names and go the next week you can.
What do I wear? Waterproof shoes, layers, a hat, gloves you can still use to serve. Pride is a thin coat.
What if I am new and nervous? Stay near a teammate. Listen more than you talk. Honour a no. Come back next week — that is how a city gets loved.

Do not despise a quiet, cold night. God still gives the growth.
